The Art of Choosing a Florist.

Should you go in the direction of flowers, it is always best to be certain your florist's vision aligns with your own.

Let's begin.

Budget- If you follow my Instagram you know that I have mentioned this is the VIP/MVP of your wedding. I don't harp on this without reason. As a planner, I want you to be happy on your wedding day, not enjoying the view but regretting some of your spending decisions. This is where your planner and florist can guide and advise you.

Let's say you've found all the Pinterest images of these beautiful floral arches, dinner tables dressed with bud vases from end to end, ceremony aisles lined with rose petals, and the chairs have pops of flowers at the ends of each one. OK great! We have a clear vision. You come to me and your florist with all that you want to recreate. We sit down and discuss the arrangements and she gives you a hefty price tag because all of the flowers in the picture are out of season and/or expensive. But WAIT, because she is The BEST OF THE BEST she also gives you an affordable and comparable option, in contrast to the previous higher priced, out-of-budget option. And best of all, she explains why it is cheaper but of an equal or greater value for you. See, part of having a vision that aligns with a couple, is your florist knowing your budget goals and how to best keep your desired look with realistic options and a lighter price tag.

None of this is to say that they will not do a phenomenal job or that you and your wedding aren't deserving of the flowers you want. This is simply to ensure this area of your wedding is cost-effective so you can stay within budget and use the money allocated for other areas effectively. For instance, an elevated food experience, a live band, a wedding dress upgrade, a HONEYMOON, OR A HOUSE... Things that will last longer in the grand scheme of things.

Style- Ok, maybe you don't want to come in blazing, but you may want your flowers to do the work for you. This is where it gets fun. Your florist can play with subdued florals or give you all the drama a flower arrangement can provide. The trick here is knowing you and your partner's desired look. If you're offbeat and eclectic, you might want to incorporate that in the table arrangements. Some high and low centerpieces could add character to the dining experience and provide a talking point for your guests. Or perhaps you want something classic and timeless. Your florist can work with you to see what flowers fit your style and create the arrangements you envision for your wedding day.

Be sure to have some inspiration available for your florist to see, so they can let you know whether or not they can recreate your ideal flowers or not. Pinterest boards and Instagram are great sources for this.

Space- Well kind of. This is the other reason you need your Wedding Planner to be in the know, space. There are so many places flowers can go.

  • The Arch

  • The Chuppah

  • The Sweetheart Table

  • The Head Table

  • All of the Tables

  • Gifts and Cards Table

  • On the Cake

  • On the Dessert Table

  • On the Welcome Sign

  • On the Guest Signing Table/Display/Item

  • On people

    • The Bride

    • The Groom

    • The Entire Wedding party

    • The Flower Girl(s)/Grandmas

    • The Ring Bearer(s)

    • The Beer Bearer(s)

Flowers can be everywhere, so your florist and your planner should know who gets what, and what goes where.
